Explore a 3D globe of the Moon via Moon Atlas, an astronomy application that offers a dynamic viewing experience. The application provides extensive labeling, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of lunar features by simply double-tapping on the labels for more in-depth information.
Moon Atlas presents real-time data on the Moon's phase and libration based on your chosen location and renders this information on the globe for visual representation. Users can utilize the 'Globe' mode to rotate the Moon and observe far side features. With a searchable feature database, pinpointing specific elements on the Moon is intuitive. Additionally, users can customize the display by toggling phases on or off, and viewing the far side in a slightly darker shade of grey.
Users have the flexibility to adjust the date, time, and location settings within the application. The realtime mode ensures that the information is up-to-date, syncing with the current time seamlessly. Moreover, users can tailor their viewing experience by selecting north or south positioning at the top of the Moon globe or inverting it to accommodate various telescope perspectives.
The application boasts an extensive range of over 1800 named features along with detailed information about 26 spacecraft that successfully landed on the Moon's surface. Users can seamlessly access data such as the current Moon phase and libration, allowing for a deeper astronomical understanding. Additionally, interactive features like swiping left and right enable users to navigate through different phases and libration data effortlessly.
For enthusiasts interested in exploring beyond the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn atlases are available on the App Store. As an added bonus, Planisphere, a star charting app, is also accessible to enrich your stargazing experience. Lastly, Apollo Eagle offers a unique simulation allowing users to experience the final 50,000 feet of the Apollo 11 moon landing – a thrilling addition to this suite of astronomical applications.
